*** CROATIAN EMBASSY

*POPULAR ARCHEOLOGICAL LECTURE WITH RECEPTION. The Embassy of Croatia would like to organize a private lecture in English, followed by a small reception at the end of this month, open primarily to the members of the Croatian community in Ottawa and Gatineau who would like to learn more about the archaeological heritage of Croatia.

This month, we have a unique opportunity to welcome an esteemed Croatian archaeologist, Dr. Jacqueline Balen, who is a museum advisor and the Head of the Prehistoric Department of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb. She will be in Ottawa at the end of January to oversee the return of Croatian prehistoric archaeological finds that have been on display in the Canadian History Museum in Gatineau as part of the "Royals of Europe" exhibition on European prehistory.

The participation of Croatian archaeological museums at this exquisite exhibition at the Canadian Museum of History, which was also showcased last year at the Museum in Chicago, highlights the richness of Croatia’s archaeological heritage from the prehistorical period. It also reflects the success of high-quality research projects conducted by Croatian archaeologists. Croatian archaeological sites and research have been internationally recognized and many world-renowned archaeologists frequently collaborate in researches in Croatia, often bringing their students to our archaeological sites to learn and enhance their skills.

If there is sufficient interest in the community, the Embassy would be ready to organise an evening event around a short lecture by Dr. Jacqueline Balen followed by a reception on January 29, 6 – 8 PM at the Embassy, 229 Chapel St. Ottawa.

Please let us know if you would be interested in attending.

Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you think might be interested in this lecture. No prior knowledge of archaeology is necessary!
