* ARCBISHOP’S FUND FOR MISSION ADVANCEMENT – SPECIAL COLLECTION (February 22). On the First Sunday of Lent, we invite your contribution to the Diocesan & Missionary Works special collection, which supports the Archbishop’s Fund for Mission Advancement. This fund helps Archbishop Damphousse respond quickly and generously to real needs and to opportunities that support the mission of the Church, especially here in the Archdiocese of Ottawa–Cornwall. Most of what is given stays right here in our diocese, supporting evangelization, youth and family ministry, Catholic education and campus ministry, and other charitable works close to home. Thanks to your generosity, more than $60,000 was raised last year. This year, our goal is $100,000. Thank you for being a part of the mission! * ASH WEDNESDAY AND LENT SEASON. The liturgical season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Lenten Fridays are days of abstinence. Fasting binds all persons from 18 to 59 years old, unless prevented by poor health. On days of fast, one full meal is allowed. Two other smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one's own needs. Eating between meals is not allowed although fluids may be taken. Abstinence from meat binds all persons who are 14 and older, unless prevented by poor health. Lent is a penitential season and, as such, religious practices such as daily Mass, the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the Stations of the Cross, works of charity and justice, and acts of self-denial are highly encouraged. Blessing of ashes will be held on Ash Wednesday at the beginning and on Sunday at the end of the Mass. Way of the Cross will take place on Friday and Sunday, half an hour before Mass.
* PARISH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. Will be held on Sunday, March 1 after Mass in our church hall. This year we should elect new members of the parish councils. So, if you are able and willing, I invite you to become more active in our parish activities. All parishioners are invited to come for the meeting.
* ENVELOPES AND CALENDARS. If somebody didn't pick up his new donation envelopes or calendars, he can do so at the stand by the entrance door.
* CATECHISM CLASSES FOR CONFIRMANDS AND CANDIDATES FOR THE FIRST COMMUNION. Catechism classes go as usual. Confirmands will have class this week, on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m. Candidates for the First Communion will have their class next week, on Friday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. Attending Sunday mass is implied for all.
